Vertical Platform Lifts — Commercial Applications Vertical lifts are manufactured to service a height of 14 feet. Many two-story building lobbies, choir lofts, warehouse offices, movie theatres and stadiums use vertical lifts in lieu of commercial elevators. Vertical lifts cannot, by code, penetrate a floor. Crazy Bill's restaurant (pictured at right on this page) solved that challenge by placing the lift it its own Plexiglas and steel enclosure on the outside of the building. The most common type of vertical lift is the self-enclosed toe-guard model. A 42 inch cab telescopes out of the hoistway to meet a staionary 42 inch upper landing gate.
